Backlot

Opened in 2023 and expanded in 2024, the SCAD Film Studios backlot currently consists of more than 8,000 sq. ft. of dressed set space and 40 separate street facades spread across six outbuildings, with a future expansion set to add more than 15,000 sq. ft. of new production spaces. Each backlot section is equipped with 200-amp and 400-amp company switches for production needs. Though the architectural styles of the street facades were designed to evoke particular regions, each can be redressed and customized to represent a variety of film locations as projects require.

Future
forward

In 2020, SCAD announced a landmark 11-acre expansion at Savannah Film Studios, which included an LED volume stage and Hollywood-style film backlot among its features. The backlot is scheduled for completion in three phases, with its first opening in 2023 and its second opening the following year. The third phase, estimated to open in the fall of 2025, will see the final buildout of the backlot, including a town square, city hall, house of worship, single-family home, and more, as well as the opening of a 24,000 sq. ft. studio with two new soundstages and office space.
